Why check this page first

The permit application is reviewed by the competent authority. If a detail is wrong, the application is returned for correction and the timeline slips. The five items below are the reasons that actually come up most often; checking them before you submit lets most applications go through first time.

1. Document photo blurred, glaring or cropped

You need a clear photo or scan of the passport (or equivalent travel document) data page. The usual problems are camera shake, glare from a flash on the laminate, only part of the page captured, or corners cut off. Lay the document flat under even light and make sure all four corners and every character are legible.

2. Name spelling does not match the document

The name must match the document exactly, including spaces, hyphens and the order of family and given names. If your name has several parts, give all of them in full - do not use only the first part or initials. This is the single most common reason for a return.

3. Itinerary missing the city and hotel for each night

The itinerary must name the city and the hotel for every night; vague wording such as "a guesthouse" or "to be confirmed" will be sent back for more detail. A workable format is: Day 1 Lhasa - hotel name, Day 2 Shigatse - hotel name, and so on. If the itinerary enters border areas, also state the specific areas and travel dates.

4. Missing China visa page, or a visa type that does not fit

Foreign travellers normally provide a photo of the China visa page. If you enter visa-free, hold a residence permit or have a particular visa type, the requirements may differ - confirm before submitting and, where relevant, note your entry method and length of stay.

5. Number of travellers does not match the name list

The number of travellers ordered must equal the number of names submitted, which matters especially for groups. A mismatch between the list and the headcount is the most common reason a group application is returned; tell us first if the party size changes.

Other easily missed points

  • Document validity: passports normally need to remain valid well beyond your planned departure date; renew first if expiry is close.
  • Entry dates and itinerary: report any change as early as possible after filing; a date change may require a fresh application.
  • Occupation: travellers in certain occupations such as media or diplomacy may have different requirements - answer honestly so we can check.

What happens after submission

Once submitted, the order moves through: documents under review - submitted - in process - permit issued. Every change is notified to the email address on the order; you can also contact us with your order number for a status update.

The above describes common cases; the requirements in force at the time of processing prevail.

FAQ

Do children and seniors need separate applications?
Yes — permits are issued per person, so each traveller needs their own document details and permit. Children must have their own document such as a passport and cannot simply be listed under an accompanying adult.
What happens if my documents are returned?
If materials are incomplete or inconsistent we will contact you about what is needed; once supplied, processing continues and the timeline shifts accordingly. Please watch the phone number and email on your order.
Can I still use my permit after renewing my passport?
No. The permit is tied to the document number, so after a renewal the old permit cannot be verified and a new application must be submitted with the new passport. If the permit has already been issued, contact us as early as possible so the follow-up can be arranged.
How far in advance should I apply for the permit?
Submit as early as possible once your dates and itinerary are fixed, and leave enough room for processing. Peak season and holidays are busier and take longer; itineraries that enter border areas need extra time for the border pass. For late bookings, express processing is available.
